Päivi Kekäläinen found the wonderful world of glass at the end of the 1980’s. Since then she has been involved with glass in many ways. She is a glass artist, and occasionaly works as a glass instructor (glass workshops) and a writer.

In her glass work Kekäläinen employs kiln techniques of glass: fusing and slumping but especially pâte de verre. Her work is mainly sculptural, but is complimented by unique plates and glass jewellery.

Kekäläinen graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki UIAH (current Aalto University) with a MA degree on industrial design (1991) and minor studies on glass art. Since that she has had positions at the UIAH (researcher, sintered recycled glass project), The Finnish Glass Museum (substitute researcher, exhibition architecture, graphic design) and at the Helsingin Sanomat (the main newspaper in Finland) Internet Edition (graphic design, html, multimedia). Today she is a selft-employed designer working on exhibition design, graphic design and web design and production.

She lives and works mainly in Helsinki, part time in Eastern Finland, near Joensuu.
